Get Happy with Food

While doing a little midday reading on Twitter, I came across an article entitled "The best foods to change your mood" from Shape Magazine. I definitely wanted to share these with all of you as I found some of them rather interesting. And who can't use a simple pick me up from time to time? Small changes in your diet can definitely do the trick. So here goes..8 foods to get you happy.

1. Walnuts

You can also get these same benefits from both flax and chia seeds. 

2. Barramundi

I have never heard of this oddly named fish, but apparently the omega-3 fats that you get from barramundi, are also found in salmon and sardines. 

3. Dark Chocolate

I love any and every excuse to eat dark chocolate, and it definitely didn't take a study for me to know that dark chocolate makes me happy

4. Greek Yogurt

The addition of protein in your diet, like Greek yogurt, helps raise levels of mood-boosting neurotransmitters. Who knew?

5. Quinoa

This article must have read my mind. I was just saying today how I wanted to start making quinoa at home. I love the taste, texture, and the amount of protein it has definitely doesn't hurt either. Yum!

6. Low-fat Milk

Vitamin D, which is found in milk, is what helps lift your mood here.

7. Extra-Virgin Olive Oil

I was glad to hear this one, as I usually use EVOO in everything I cook. I love when you find out that something you have been doing all along has multiple health benefits. 

8. Collards

Sure it's green in color, but collards probably would not have made the top of my list of things to put you in a good mood. Interesting..

The only one I don't eat regularly would be the barramundi fish! I don't think I've ever seen it before!
